Koven Trio serves up sweet jazz on his new CD ‘The Sound of Songs’
Posted on Nov 16, 2008

Last month, local jazz artist and band leader Steve Koven released his seventh album.
The Sound of Songs is a prime example of why pianist-Hammond B3 organist Koven and bandmates Rob Clutton on bass and Anthony Michelli on drums have long been considered one of Canada’s pre-eminent jazz groups.

The Sound of Songs
Posted on Nov 14, 2008

I am proud to announce the release of our seventh CD, The Sound of Songs.  The music on this disc is a collection of nine original compositions that I composed over the last two years.  My intent was to compose songs that take the listen on a musical journey - from old Eastern Europe to the ‘New World’, from the Carribean palm trees to a country road, from the streets of New Orleans to an imaginary place.  The Sound of Song features long time members of my trio - Rob Clutton on bass and Anthony Micheilli on drums.  In addition to our special guest, Kenny Kirkwood on saxophone, this recording marks the first composition for string quartet.  I hope you enjoy this CD as much as I enjoyed the process of creating it.
